Foreign language transcription and translation to English are growing in importance.
The more languages an author, presenter, or as in our case, TEDx speaker, has his or her talks adapted in other languages the more exposure he or she receives.
Of course, the guiding principle of TED is “ideas worth sharing.”
TEDx talks are independent TED-like presentations in your own local community.
Our TEDx is about Cancun, Mexico, and involved Spanish to English translation.
If you cannot attend or one is not offered in your location, the Internet is your best bet.
Spanish-Language TEDx
TED talks are in more than 100 languages and the one below was originally in Spanish.
Even if you have never been to Cancun, Mexico, you will find the talk captivating because of its storytelling and the passion exuded by the speaker, Señora Tiziana Roma.
If you are studying advanced Spanish, these informal talks are perfect listening practice.
TED Translations
So that TED ideas receive maximum exposure, an active translation program is in operation.
So far, for the video talk below about Cancun, I verified the transcription in Spanish.
The high-quality Spanish transcript only required minor modifications.
Then I translated the Spanish-language talk into English.
While ahead of the game – producing the English translation – which appears to be incomplete according to the TED partner Amara, I am still waiting for formal acceptance into the TEDx translation program.
Nevertheless, loyal readers of this blog get a sneak peek. You may watch the video in Spanish or just read the transcription in English.
Cancun is Mexico, too
Si entiende español, ahora puede mirar el video original en español.
All can read the English transcript embedded below.
